| A. METHODOLOGY | Originally based on SFPark surveys and data creation 2008-2011 then cleaned, verified and updated with MTA Sign Shop EAMS data in Summer/Fall 2023.

| B. UPDATE FREQUENCY | Updated automatically from Sign Shop EAMS data weekly on Sundays at midnight. Python script runs from SFMTA server GIS-1 as a cronjob.

| C. OTHER CRITICAL INFO | Filter for “In Service” blue zones in “STATUS_CODE” field. Non-active blue zones are not removed from dataset, their status is changed to “Retired”. “Verified” spots have been confirmed to exist using Google Street View or equivalent. Drivers with disabled placards can park at any metered space for free and with no time limits; they are not limited to blue zones. This feature class should be used primarily to indicate the location and status of blue zones in the city; all other information should be considered an approximation and be verified before use. To facilitate automatic updates, this feature class uses the basic schema of the sign shop’s EAMS database with the addition of several other attributes that were inherited from previous versions of this feature class. As a result, entries have many empty attribute fields. For points in this dataset that were added or verified in the Summer and Fall of 2023, their latitude and longitude coordinates are approximations of the center point of the parking space they belong to. After the connection to the sign shop EAMS in 2024, all points are “snapped” to the official MTA curb feature class. All other point coordinates are approximations of the parking space’s location. During the 2023 update, existing entries were cross-referenced to the sign shop’s EAMS database and given an asset number based on the best approximated corresponding address and location information. Note that asset numbers might not be perfectly accurate. Space lengths are approximations. For Rec & Park Blue Zones, please contact Brian Stokle at brian.stokle@sfgov.org.
